NBA -- Nuggets deny Warriors outright playoffs berth

SAN FRANCISCO -- Up by 20 points and playing in front of their boisterous home crowd at the Oracle Arena, the Golden State Warriors were well on their way to clinching a playoffs berth Thursday night.

But what could have been a magical night turned into an evening of horrors as the visiting Denver Nuggets, who are already eliminated from the playoffs, pulled a 100-99 shocker after Kenneth Faried sank a jumper in the final 0.5 seconds.

Timofey Mozgov had a career night for the Nuggets, scoring 23 points and snatching 29 rebounds, both careers highs. Faried, the hero, added 18 while Randy Foye chalked 20 as Denver won despite making only 39 of 104 field goals (37.5 percent).

"We're not in the playoffs, but we're not giving up. So, we want to fight," Mozgov told NBA.com.

Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 24, including a floater that gave his team a 99-98 edge with 5.8 ticks to go. Klay Thompson had 21 and Jermaine O'Neal contributed 12 and five boards.

The Warriors can still clinch a playoffs berth with a win over the Lakers Friday night at the Staples Center. (DM)
