NEW ORLEANS ? With All-Star center Anthony Davis sitting on the bench with an upper respiratory infection, the New Orleans Pelicans lost Wednesday night despite having six players scoring in double figures.
DeMar DeRozan notched 31 points, Kyle Lowry had 23 and Amir Johnson finished with 17 as the Toronto Raptors beat the host Pelicans, 1007-100.
Toronto won despite shooting only 36 of 86 from the field.
But New Orleans head coach Monty Williams believed that his team's debacle could be attributed to the Raptors' 22 offensive boards that proved too hard to overcome despite the Pelicans' tough defensive effort.
?It hurts," Williams said. "Once he got into foul trouble, when he picked up his fourth, that probably broke his rhythm,? said Williams while referring to New Orleans point guard Eric Gordon whose contributions were shut down in the second half.
Al-Farouq Aminu led the Pelicans with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Tyreke Evans chipped in 18 points while Gordon added 15. Brian Roberts scored 11, while Alexis Ajinca and Austin Rivers finished with 10 points each.
The Raptors improved to 38-29 in the Eastern Conference while the Pelicans plummeted to 27-40 in the Western Conference. (AIJ)
