NBA -- Grizzlies squeak by Pelicans, 90-88

NEW ORLEANS - A thrilling showdown at the Smoothie King Center ended with the Memphis Grizzlies escaping with a 90-88 win Wednesday night.

In the last minute of the fourth quarter, after Rivers lost the ball, Tony Allen converted a fast break lay-up that tied the game at 88-all. With 29 seconds left, the Pelicans' Anthony Morrow missed a 3 point which Allen grabbed with 14 seconds left.

In the ensuing play, Mike Conley nailed a 7-foot floater that put the Grizzlies ahead by 2. The Pelicans' last ditch effort to win was stmied when Zach Randolph blocked a Rivers 3 as time expired.

Anthony Davis was named the player of the game with another double-double performance, 29 points and 10 rebounds plus 4 blocked shots and 1 steal.

Austin Rivers was named sixth man of the game with 14 points and 2 steals.

Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon of New Orleans did not play due to illness.

Grizzlies were led by: Mike Conley's 16 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal.

Gasol had 15 points and 9 rebounds while Randolph and Allen contributed 13 points each. (AIJ)
