NBA -- Raptors spoil Kobe's return with victory over Lakers

SAN FRANCISCO -- The Toronto Raptors spoiled the season debut of superstar Kobe Bryant by scoring an upset victory over the Los Angeles Lakers Sunday night at the Staples Center.

Amir Johnson scored 32 points and grabbed rebounds to lead the Raptors' 106-94 triumph. DeMar DeRozan finished with 16 points and Kyle Lowry added 23 for Toronto, which garnered its seventh win in 19 games.

In his first game since blowing his Achilles tendon last April, Kobe showed a lot of rust. The 6-foot-6 guard missed 7-of-9 field goals for nine points in 27 minutes and 56 seconds of play. Bryant also had eight rebounds and four assists, but he struggled with eight turnovers.

Nick Young led the Lakers with 19 points while Xavier Henry contributed 17 off the bench. Jodie Meeks added 14 and Pau Gasol settled with seven points and eight rebounds.

The Lakers dropped to 10-10 for the season. (RM)
