Maasin City, Southern Leyte - The protagonists for this Friday's fight card had their official weigh-in and pre-fight physical examination Thursday at the Maasin City Health Unit. Albert Pagara of the ALA Gym of Cebu weighed 116 lbs while Anthony Galigao of Bohol stepped in at 113 lbs. They will fight in the six round main event. Pagara's mother is from Maasin and he spent his early childhood years in this city.
Scheduled to see action in the undercard are Albert Villacampa (116 lbs) of Bantayan island vs Junel Busano (116 lbs) of Bohol (6 rounds), Jocel Gestopa (126 lbs) of Consolacion, Cebu vs. John Mark Deita (128 lbs) of the Navarette Stable of Gen.Santos City (4 rounds), and Ivor Lastrilla (118.5 lbs) of Tacloban City vs. Rey Simbajon (117.75 lbs) of Bohol (4 rounds). The event will be opened by amateur bouts.
The undefeated Pagara (4W-0L, 3 KO's) turned pro last January and is the younger brother of WBO Youth Asia-Pacific lt. welterweight titlist Jason Pagara. The local government of Maasin hopes to have the brothers headline a boxing promotion here in the near future.
POSTSCRIPT:
The entire City of Maasin is a non-smoking area ? for both public and private places ? with banners and signs all around informing the public of the health risks of tobacco smoking. From a physician's point of view, I give this a two thumbs up.
