Two Philipine national titles will be put at stake in
what will be the biggest Sinulog boxing spectacle on
January 15 at the Gaisano Countrymall carpark in Cebu
City.
The event, to be promoted by premier promoter Sammy
"Don King" Gello-ani, is going to be a blockbuster,
free-to-the-public free-for-all staking the RP welter
and flyweight belts.
Reigning Philippine welter boss Dondon 'Supremo"
Sultan of the SGG Stable will defend his 140-lb tiara
against Cezar Yarte of the Wakee Salud Stable in a
grudge rematch of their late-2002 fight, where Sultan
crawed back from imminent defeat to knock out Yarte in
the 12th round of the fight.
Sultan, who hails from Labason, Zamboanga del Norte,
will be making the fourth defense of the welterweight
title in this Sinulog presentation.
In the co-feature, RP flyweight king Federico
'Magnifico' Catubay will risk the marbles for the
first time against RP no. 5 Louie Bantigue in another
12-round tiff.
The stocky Catubay, coming off a gallant decision loss
to Japan's Noriyuki Komatsu, had won the RP title with
an impressive stoppage over a jaded Jerry Pahayahay
early last year in Cagayan de Oro City.
In the undercard, hot prospect Robert "Cliff Smart"
Allanic sees action against a soon-to-be-announced foe
while other ALA and SGG fighters are also penciled in
to do battle against separate opponents.
