The Philippines Joel De La Cruz has been knocked out in the 2nd round of a WBO Oriental lightweight title fight by champion Thai Tor Silachai in Petchaboon, Thailand.
The 25 year old Silachai who won the vacant title with a unanimous twelve round decision over Indonesia?s Eddie on March 6, 2009 has too much skill and power for De La Cruz who entered the ring with a record of 10 wins 8 losses and 1 draw with 4 knockouts compared to the Thai champion who boasted of a record of 15-2 with 9 knockouts.
De La Cruz was coming off an eight round unanimous decision loss to Takashi Inagaki last December 8 while Silachai had a string of victories, the last being a 2nd round knockout over Robert Apiwat last February 5.
Prior to that Silachai on January 23 this year, the champion scored a 4th round TKO in a title rematch with Mike Tumbaga.
He had earlier won a twelve round unanimous decision over Tumbaga on April 25, 2009 and then scored a 10th round TKO over Filipino veteran Dante Paulino on December 4, 2009.
