Salubre wins DAVNORCA Rapid chessfest

JAYSON Salubre of Panabo City beat Carl Jasphyr Lloyd Fiel of Sarangani by a tiebreak to win the DAVNORCA Rapid chess tournament held last April 14, Sunday at the Robinson’s Mall in Tagum City.

Both Salubre and Fiel finished with a clean 7.0 points.

The 39-year-old Salubre only needed a draw in the last 8th round against Gino Angelo Asuncion while Fiel, 16, had to beat NM Macacuna Macala, a 3rd placer in the just concluded 2nd Warden’s Open Rapid Chess tournament last April 13 at the SM City Davao.

“They are tied with Fiel's score at 7 points but Salubre has a higher tie break,” said tournament director Homer Rotulo.

Fiel settled for second while Asuncion bagged third placed after besting two others in a tiebreak with 6.5 points.

Reynaldo Quinonez is fourth followed by John Gerard Esencia at fifth. The 6th to 10th placers are Macacuna, Marlow Vestal, Cipriano Magalso, John Kenneth Tabada and Allen Mirano.
