MANILA -- US based Grandmaster (GM) Julio Catalino Sadorra emerged as the top Filipino player in the newest ratings list released by the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
The Cavite-native chess prodigy Sadorra remains as the country’s highest-rated player with an ELO of 2564 based on the May 2021 list released by the world’s governing body.
Joining him in the PH rankings are No. 2 GM Mark Paragua (2529), No. 3 GM Oliver Barbosa (2509), No.4 GM Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla Jr. (2463), No. 5 IM Paulo Bersamina (2462), No 6 GM John Paul Gomez (2442), No. 7 GM Eugene Torre (2437), No. 8 GM Richard Bitoon (2437), No. 9 GM Darwin Laylo (2434) and No. 10 GM Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. (2421).
Lone Filipina Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna dominated the distaff side with 2179.
Rounding up to the top 10 are WFM Shania Mae Mendoza (2158), WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda (2152), WIM Marie Antoinette San Diego (2080), WIM Catherine Perena Secopito (2075), WIM Bernadette Galas (2065), WIM Kylen Joy Mordido (2014), WIM Mikee Charlene Suede (2011), WNM Arvie Lozano (1982) and WFM Allaney Jia Doroy (1972).-Marlon Bernardino-
