NBA -- Rivers scores 19 to propel the Clippers past Jazz, 88-75

LOS ANGELES -- On a wet and gloomy Sunday afternoon, the Los Angeles Clippers gave their fans something to cheer about following an 88-75 triumph over the Utah Jazz in their season home opener at the Staples Center.

It wasn't a particularly good shooting day for the Clippers, who made only 34 of 83 field goals (41 percent) but their defense held the Jazz to just 39.7 percent (29 of 73). The Clips also out-rebounded Utah, 49-43.

Auston Rivers led Los Angeles with 19 off the bench while Blake Griffin added 18 and 10 rebounds. Chris Paul settled with 9 points and 9 assists while Jamal Crawford punched in for 12. De Andre Jordan scored just 7 but he grabbed 16 rebounds.

The 2-0 Clippers had a temporary scare when Jordan hurt his thumb in the third quarter while attempting a steal. He did return in the fourth quarter and x-ray results were negative.

George Hill, who was traded by the Indiana Pacers this past off-season, led Utah (0-2) with 18 points. Dante Exum finished with 10 but no other Jazz scored in double figures.
