NBA -- Rockets make quick work of Lakers

LOS ANGELES -- ​After a torrid start, scoring 36 first quarter points, the Los Angeles Lakers managed just 59 the rest of the way and lost to the Houston Rockets, 112-95, at the Staples Center.

​James Harden​ proved to be a handful for the Lakers, dropping four triples en route to 31 points and five dimes. Dwight Howard logged 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Rockets crushed the Lakers off the boards, 51-36.

​The Rockets, who shot 48.4 percent from the field, had seven players scoring double figures in points. After a rocky start which saw the team fire then coach Kevin McHale, the Rockets improved to 22-20 and currently sit in 7th place in the Western Conference standings.​

Lou Williams led the Lakers with 20​ points while Jordan C​larkson had 16.

​Kobe Bryant, who will be retiring at the end of this season, played only 24 minutes, but the 20-year veteran had nine assists to go along with his five points. ​
