NBA -- Melo "excited" to play under Triangle offense By Nelson Chu PhilBoxing.com Wed, 01 Oct 2014 ![]() NEW YORK - After barely missing the playoffs last season following a disappointing 37-45 finish, the New York Knicks underwent a tedious overhaul in hopes on returning to contender status. The franchise, the wealthiest and one of the most-storied in the league, kept busy this past summer, hiring ex-Knick turned Zen Master Phil Jackson as team president. After an exhaustive search, Jackson then picked former Lakers disciple Derek Fisher as head coach. All these changes have injected a sense of renewal for the Knicks. And no one is happier than team captain and leading scorer Carmelo Anthony. "I'm excited," he told a huge contingent of media members who assembled at the team's practice facility in Greenburgh, New York for the annual Media Day event. Melo, who averaged 27.4 points and 8.1 rebounds a game last season, is looking forward to playing the Triangle offense which coach Fisher is expected to implement under Jackson's watch. Melo flirted with free agency last July before ultimately re-signing with the Knicks for a five-year max deal worth well over $124 million, according to multiple reports including ESPN. Understanding that winning championships takes time, Melo said he's "willing to be patient" and he will dedicate himself to finishing what he calls "unfinished business." ![]() Knicks hopefuls vying for regular roster spot as ongoing training camp takes place on the grounds of West Point Academy -- philboxing photos by Julius Romero Click here to view a list of other articles written by Nelson Chu. ![]() |
