Smithy Brings the Big Fights 8 Oct 31 Fright night of Titles PhilBoxing.com Thu, 07 Aug 2014 Smithy's Promotions is proud to announce "Smithy Brings the Big fights 8". The 8th installment of our signature fight series will take place on Halloween, October 31 at Rumours International in Toowoomba. The event will be highlighted by two WBA Oceania titles. The first will feature Filipino star and adopted Toowoomba local Jack "The Assassin" Asis (31W(16KO) 18L 5D) when he takes on Brazilian knock out artist Isais Santos Sampaio (19W(19KO) 8L). With all of Sampaio wins coming by way of knockout and Jack Asis on an impressive streak, there is sure to be plenty of fireworks when the pair square of for the WBA Oceania Super featherweight title and a world ranking in the WBA. "The Fighting Fisherman" Kris "The Silencer" George (6W(5KO) 0L), trained by Craig Monagle, will take on Brazil's number 1 Fernando Ferreira Da Silva (32W(24KO) 4L 1D) for the WBA Oceania junior welterweight title and a world ranking in the WBA. Coming off his impressive win over the previously undefeated Ozan Craddock, Kris will be giving away plenty of experience as he looks to begin his international campaign at his new weight of junior welterweight. However, fresh off a narrow 12 round defeat to Aussie star Jeff Horn, Da Silva will be looking to bounce back and claim the title and the ranking. "This is a very exciting opportunity for me," said George. From Left: Derek Millham executive secretary WBA Oceania, Jack Asis, Kris George and Damon Locantro vice president WBA Oceania. "It is a huge step up in my career but that's what I want, to keep moving forward." Also on the card will be a stack of local and international talent. Toowoomba's own rising featherweight star and current undefeated WBC world youth silver champ Brayd Smith, who is now 10 wins with 8 wins by KO as a professional, will look to back up his impressive win in July and further his career on the card. Englishman and now adopted Toowoomba boxer and current Queensland and Victorian State champ Darren "The Cumbrian Cyclone" Askew will begin what will hopefully be a successful campaign at a new weight, making the move from junior welterweight to lightweight. Askew has been on an impressive run since moving to Toowoomba and will be looking for this to continue. Fellow Englishman who also now calls Toowoomba home, the undefeated Josh "The Boss" Baillie will continue his impressive assault on the pros when he takes to the ring for his third professional fight on the card. Hard hitting heavyweight "The Hermanator" Herman Ene-Purcell will be keen to bounce back from his recent controversial points loss to current Queensland Heavyweight champion when he returns to the ring on this card. Thai sensation John Ford who is well known in Australia for knocking out Brandon Ogilvie, will have his first bout from his new home in Toowoomba under the guidance of Brendon Smith. Making their professional debut's on October 31 will be amateur sensation "Lightning" Stevie Spark as well as Joel "Power" Stower. The 18 year old Spark is a former Australian amateur champion, Australian golden glove champion and Australian representative who will be looking to make a big splash in the professional ranks. Opponents for each of these fights will be announced over the coming weeks. Promoter Brendon Smith said he is very excited to once again bring such a big event to the darling downs.
