MELINDO BEATS TECUAPETLA AND OTHER UNDERCARD RESULTS

PhilBoxing.com

PASAY CITY - Milan ?Metodico? Melindo kept his WBO International flyweight title by turning back the tough Martin ?Diablo? Tecuapetla of Mexico in the supporting main event of Pinoy Pride 25. Melindo built an early lead by firing accurate jabs and combos. He threw uppercuts into the mix and the complexion of the bout was that of a brutal monotony. But Tecuapetla persisted in his pressure in the late rounds. Melindo?s footwork and counters however pulled him through.

The scorecards read ? Edward Ligas ? 116-112 and Jerrold Tomeldan 115-113 for Melindo while Salven Lagumbay had it 114-114. With the majority decision victory, Melindo remains in the hunt for another shot at a world title.

Rey ?BoomBoom? Bautista won a hard fought ten round unanimous decision against Sergio ?El Cuate? Villanueva of Mexico. Bautista connected early on with his left hook but Villanueva was willing to trade and took BoomBoom?s punches well. They continued to trade shots and both had to dig in deep in the later rounds. The scores ? Dan Nietes ? 97-93, Greg Ortega and Edward Ligas had it 96-94.

Mark ?Magnifico? Magsayo gave fans a glimpse of his exquisite boxing skills by beating Hyuk-tak Joo of South Korea by a lopsided unanimous decision after four rounds. The scores were 40-36 for all three judges.

Joseph Von Minoza and South Korean Sung-tak Joo fought to a 6 round majority draw. The scores 58-56 for Minoza with two judges recording a stalemate 57-57.

Reymi Castellano Aleye of Cuba stopped Warren Mambuanag in five rounds. Mambuanag walked into a right hook and was knocked down in the 5th. He got up but was pinned on the ropes receiving a barrage from the Cuban prompting referee Danrex Tapdasan to stop the fight at 2:49. JK Elorde sent Jeffrey Garcia to the canvas twice enroute to a unanimous decision win. The scores ? 40-34, 39-35,39-35.

This boxing promotion was held Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena and was capped by WBO lt.flyweight champion Donnie Nietes? stunning ninth round TKO win over Moises Fuentes of Mexico in their grudge rematch. They fought to a majority draw last year in Cebu City.
