CASIMERO BLITZES FUENTES AND UNDERCARD RESULTS

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY ? Johnriel Casimero may have entered the ring as an ex-champion, but it did not dull his killer instinct.

Casimero?s swift combinations and power right hand decked Mauricio Fuentes of Colombia three times in the opening round prompting Referee Gerard White to call a halt to the bout. Fuentes looked stunned when he got up from the first knockdown and Casimero swarmed and fired hard hooks. The fight ended with the Colombian rolling on the canvas. Time 2:59.

Casimero lost his IBF junior flyweight title when he was five pounds over the limit during the official weigh-in Friday. Fuentes had a chance to win the title if he had beaten Casimero but his stay inside the ring at the Waterfront Hotel was very short.

Casimero (20W (12KO's)-2L), who fights out of the Omega gym of Cebu, will now be moving up to flyweight and he called out WBA/WBO champion Juan Francisco Estrada of Mexico. Fuentes drops to 16W (10KO's)-3L.

Casimero knocks out Fuentes early.

De La Torre stops Tubigon.

Rosales (R) drives Sabalde to the ropes.

Harmonito dela Torre kept his unbeaten run when he won the vacant WBF superfeatherweight international title by TKO at the start of the 4th round against Gadwin Tubigon.

Tubigon was knocked down in the 3rd and a cut on his upper lip prompted Referee Danrex Tapdasan to call a halt to the bout after the ring doctor examined Tubigon in between rounds.

Dela Torre is now 13-0,8KO?s.

In a Philippine fight of the year candidate, Jessie Cris Rosales beat Anthony Sabalde by unanimous decision in an entertaining bomb-throwing affair for the WBO Youth Asia-Pacific featherweight title.

It was a give and take close quarter combat from start to finish. They took turns pounding each other on the ropes. Sabalde?s right hook inflicted a cut near Rosales left eye in the 6th. They action shifted back and forth until the pivotal eight round when Rosales stunned Sabalde with a right straight.

Rosales landed a series of hard shots but Sabalde recovered to fire back. But Rosales had the edge in the endgame. Judges Ed Olalo,Salven Lagumbay and Edward Ligas all had it 96-94. Rosales keeps his unbeaten run at 14-0,5KO?s.

Jack ?Golden Boy? Tepora captured his first regional belt ? the WBF Asia-Pacific super bantamweight title - after beating Joash Apericio by TKO in the 10th round. Tepora fought through blood from the 4th round onwards due a gash inflicted by a headbutt. He used smart boxing to pile up the points until a faded Apericio signaled that he had enough. Time 1:37. Tepora is now 10-0,6KO?s.

Rey Labao scored a dramatic 5th round TKO win over Rodel Wenceslao. Labao had Wenceslao down in the opening round. In the fifth, a stunning right from Wenceslao sent Labao down.

Sensing an upset against the reigning Philippine lightweight champion, Wenceslao engaged Labao in close quarters. But Labao pinned Wenceslao on the ropes and landed a brutal volley and Referee Ben Necesario stopped the fight at the 1:55 mark with Wenceslao hanging on the ropes receiving unanswered punches.

Joey Canoy leaned on the sixth round knockdown he scored against Mark Anthony Florida to win by unanimous decision. 78-74,78-75,78-74.

Jessie Espinas beat Philip Jun Pronco by unanimous decision. Espinas had Pronco down in rounds 3 and 7. The scores ? 76-75,80-71 and78-72.
