RACHMANN WANTS MORE MONEY FOR CONDES TITLE DEFENSE
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 09 Mar 2007
IBF minimumweight champion Muhammad Rachman of Indonesia wants “more money and other considerations” to defend his title against hard-hitting Florante Condes of the Philippines.
The co-manager of Condes, Dante Ortiz, told Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today that the promoter of the 35 year old world champion who had earlier agreed to fight Condes in the US, Soeryo Goeritno, called Condes’ new US promoter Bobby Bostick to tell him he wanted a better offer than the original contract sent earlier by Bostick Promotions.
Ortiz revealed that Bostick had spoken to the Indonesian promoter at least five times to negotiate a title fight for Condes in the US and that both he and IBF officials participated in the overseas telephone conversations twice when Rachman’s handlers agreed to defend the title in America.
Ortiz said he understood that the Indonesians at any moment change their minds but stressed that Condes is the IBF’s “first choice as a mandatory contender” to Rachman. Ortiz who co-managers Condes with former boxer Aljoe Jaro said Bostick had given the IBF a good proposal for a double-championship fight card that would also include a title fight featuring IBF 147 pound champion Kermit Cintron.
Ortiz disclosed that he had signed three year, nine fight deal for Condes with Bobby Bostick Promotions with a guarantee of a minimum of three fights a year.
