CUBAN BOXER TRAINS AT ALA GYM; FIGHTS AT SINULOG BOXING SUNDAY PhilBoxing.com Tue, 14 Jan 2014 Aleye. It is not everyday that a native-born Cuban boxer gets to display his wares in Cebu fighting against a tough Cebuano warrior in a true-to-life reality show that is going to unfold on Sinulog day. Stepping in this tropical country is a big challenge for Cuban fighter Reymi Castellano Aleye. Born in Havana, the 26 year old Aleye started his first amateur boxing bout at a tender age of 9 under the influence of his father who happens to be a boxing trainer and the man who encouraged him to get into boxing. Aleye bagged six national titles and fought 400 fights as an amateur boxer in Cuba. He made waves in France, Germany as well as in Ukraine by winning two (2) silvers and a bronze medal. He also got the chance to trade blows with Guillermo Rigondeaux, the WBA and WBO Champion who upset Nonito ?The Filipino Flash? Donaire Jr. last April 2013 but lost to his fellow Cuban. The boxing warrior, is a Physical Education graduate from Cuba and the only one among his two siblings who got the right knuckle of boxing. In his wish to aim higher in the world of professional boxing, he fought two (2) professional boxing battles in Cambodia winning both encounters. Aleye believed that he has the talent and skill to become a world champion. Back when he was in Cambodia, he heard and read a lot about the famed ALA Boxing Gym. It was a sign that rings true for Aleye to come to the Philippines especially in Cebu to broaden his skills and acquired experience in order to live his dream and train at the ALA Gym. His favorite boxer is the World Boxing Champion, Manny ?Pacman? Pacquiao. The new fighter under the wings of ALA Boxing wanted to train and fight in the Philippines aside from the warm culture that Filipinos are known for. With almost three months of training in Cebu, Reymi Castellano Aleye (2-0, 1 KO) is the first Cuban boxer who will have his Cebu debut against Rodel Wenceslao (7-6-1, 2 KO) on January 19, 2014, Sunday, at the Gaisano Country Mall Carpark in Banilad Cebu City. Sinulog Boxing at The Mall is ALA Boxing and Fitness Gym?s way of celebrating Sinulog in association with Fungisol as the major sponsor. |
