PhilBoxing.com

Hector Sanchez.
Another Puerto Rican boxer Hector "El Flaco" Sanchez who had a record of 19-3 with 9 knockouts was shot several times and killed on Sunday in San Juan in an incident in which three other men also died.

The 26 year old junior welterweight was coming off a 5th round TKO loss to Julio Diaz last September 29 in California. He was a two-time Puerto Rican national champion and a 2000 Junior Olympic bronze medalist.

Boxrec.com records showed that Sanchez won his first 17 pro fights with 8 knockouts. His biggest win ead a unanimous decision over former WBO world champion DeMarcus Corley on April 10, 2009.

It's the third such massacre so far with Sanchez joining Puerto Rican great Hector ?Macho? Camacho and Kenneth Diaz who were also killed in similar fashion..

Sanchez's mother, Carmen Garcia, confirmed her son's death to the daily El Nuevo Dia when she came out of the Centro Medico, the island's main hospital, where the boxer was being treated.

Puerto Rican media quoted Ms. Garcia who said that at 11pm local time on Saturday the boxer said he was going to go out for a moment, but about 90 minutes later authorities told her that he had been seriously wounded during a shootout.

The 26-year-old Sanchez died on Sunday afternoon after being shot several times in the abdomen and head.

His mother lamented the fact that "He was at the wrong place ... My son didn't mess with anyone. He doesn't hurt anyone."

Police said no drugs or money were found at the crime seen and they were at a loss as to the cause of the shooting although one of the men killed identified as 40 year old Marcos Javier Tanco Rosario reportedly had a criminal record for murder.

The other men who died were identified by police as Luis Munoz Castro, 42 and Bienvenido Rivera Garcia, 43.

Sanchez began his professional career in 2005 after a successful career in amateur boxing in which he won the national championship.

He is the second Puerto Rican boxer to be murdered in 2013 and the third since last year.

.In January, Kenneth Diaz as riddled with bullets by unknown killers in the town of Trujillo Alto, near the capital.

The 21-year-old Diaz was killed in a drive-by shooting along with two other men as they were speaking with a private security officer at a school and unknown gunmen opened fire on them from a vehicle.
