FILIPINO Jerry Legaspi beat Korean Tony Yoo in yesterday?s finals of the Male Masters White and Blue belt division, over 79kg (Pesado) division to lead the march of country?s gold medal winner at the 2013 Philippine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and No Gi and Kids International Open at the SM Southmall in Las Pinas City.

The 35-year-old Muay-Thai instructor from Quezon City, earlier beat Scott dela Rosa to arranged a titular showdown with Yoo. Yoo, meantime defeated Michael Mejia.

"I'm happy I'm able to do this for our country winning the gold medal," said Legaspi, playing under the banner of Team Kamphius-Fabricio who also won two (2) gold medal in last year's Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) Asia-Pacific World Qualifying Trials (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.

Stephen Salazar from team Kamphius-Fabricio defeated Skevos Macarounas of team Peter de Been Australia to grabbed the gold medal in the Male Masters White and Blue belt division, under 79kg (Leve).

According to organizing committee Stephen Kamphius, the two day (Saturday and Sunday) event continues to promote the sport, reach out to more people and achieve a higher level of intensity in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, also the safest form of martial arts even for children and girls. ?This (tournament) is definitely going to sharpen the skills of veteran and upcoming Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes,? said Kamphius, who is orginally from New Zealand and is now staying in the country the last four years.

Among the participating nations affiliated with the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) are Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Korea and host country Philippines, among others.

Joining Legaspi and Salazar in the gold medal winners are Marvin Bernardino of Origin BJJ (Male Adults White Belt division under 94.3 kg, Pesado), Martin Villaluz of Hevtek Ancheta (Masters White belt division, over 100-5kg, Pessadissimo), Meggie Ochoa, (Female Adults White Belt division, under 53.5 kg) and Char Custodio of Atos (Female Adults Blue Belt division, under 58.5 kg).
