Lomachenko and Usyk to bring star quality to York Hall

PhilBoxing.com

Lausanne, Switzerland, 05 February 2013 - The announcement that double Olympic Champion Vasyl Lomachenko will be boxing at York Hall in London when Ukraine Otamans battle the British Lionhearts in the last round of World Series of Boxing (WSB) fixtures in Group B on Friday 1 March 2013, is sure to be greeted with great joy by all boxing fans across Britain. It will be an opportunity for them to see first-hand one of the world's finest talents in action. For the price of one Olympic and World Champion, they will get the opportunity of seeing a second absolutely free, with the imposing figure of Oleksandr Usyk also set to grace the canvas.

Lomachenko, the electric 24-year-old southpaw, is now a fully fledged boxing superstar after adding the London 2012 Olympic Lightweight (60kg) gold medal to the Featherweight (57kg) one he claimed in such style at the 2008 Beijing Games. The two-time AIBA World Champion, after triumphing both in Milan in 2009 and in Baku in 2011, is one of the world's most feared boxers and the British public is sure to be treated to something truly special when he takes to the ring to face either one of Lionhearts fighters.

It is yet unknown which of the Lionhearts the classy Ukrainian will be battling against, with the British team not having yet nominated their representative for that bout. It could be anyone from London 2012 silver medallist John Joe Nevin, London 2012 Olympian Josh Taylor, Joe Cordina or Sam Maxwell, who Lomachenko completely dominated in week five. Once thing is for sure though, when Lomachenko takes to the ring, it is guaranteed to be spectacular.

Lomachenko stated, "The fans in London know their boxing and I cannot wait to show them what I can do. The Lionhearts have been good this season but we are getting stronger and stronger so I predict our victory!"

He will be joined in a star-studded Ukrainian Otamans line-up by the two Oleksandrs: 2012 London Olympic Games Light Heayvweight (81kg) bronze medallist Gvozdyk, and the unstoppbale force that is Usyk. The charismatic 25-year-old Usyk was one of the stand-out performers at the London 2012 Olympic Games where he took the Heavyweight (91kg) gold medal in such style. After his triumph at the AIBA World Boxing Championships Baku 2011, the 191cm, 6ft3in tall southpaw from Simferopol in the Crimea delighted boxing fans worldwide with his all-action displays and his 'Hopak' dance celebration in the British capital. With two impressive wins already in WSB this season, Usyk has taken the competition by storm with one sensational TKO victory.

Usyk added, "I am enjoying WSB, it is a good competition. I beat Uaine Fa the last time the Otamans faced the Lionhearts but I knew that I could have been more spectacular. One thing is for sure, this time around I want everyone to remember the fight. I like to entertain and that is what I will do".

The General Manager of the British Lionhearts, Matthew Archibald said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for boxing fans to see one of the globe's finest young talents in one of the world's most iconic and intimate boxing environments. Lomachenko is a modern-day boxing legend so it is great for the sport that fans will have the chance to see him up close. Both teams will be looking to secure a place in the play-offs so this will be a fantastic way to complete the group stages of World Series of Boxing with some of the world's top names competing".

It will be a night to remember at the iconic York Hall with so much talent set to take to the ring. Tickets are available at www.britishlionhearts.com or can be purchased at the door.
