ROCKY FUENTES RETAINS OPBF CROWN
PhilBoxing.com Wed, 19 Dec 2012

TOKYO--OPBF flyweight kingpin Rocky Fuentes retained his regional title with a workman-like 12-round unanimous decision over a game Yuki Nasu tonight at the famed Korakuen Hall here.
Fuentes, working behind crisp jabs and solid uppercuts, bucked a deep cut over his left eyelid, dishing out combinations to befuddle a surging Nasu to prevail via scores of 117-111, 116-114, and 115-113.
Nasu managed to keep himself competitive in the first half of the fight, but somehow lost steam in the second half, allowing the Cebuano fighter to pull away with the win.
`He was very tough today. He improved a lot. He was a different fighter I fought the first time,` Fuentes told Philboxing.com after the fight, giving superlatives to his vanquished foe for his game performance.
The ALA fighter is now looking at a possible challenge against WBC flyweight champion Ikehara Igarashi following this decision win.
`I want to fight Igarashi next. He is the fighter I want to fight,` added the usually self-effacing fighter.
Fuentes` promoter Michale Aldeguer, head of the ALA Promotions, also told reporters that they would welcome a possible fight with Igarashi, whether in Japan or in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, another ALA-promoted fighter, Arthur `Matador` Villanueva, goes for the vacant OPBF superflyweight title tomorrow at the same venue.
