Laredo, Texas (November 17, 2012) ? The Laredo Asian Association (LAA) held its 6th Annual Asian Night with cocktails and silent auction preview starting at 6:30 pm. An Asian gourmet menu course was served for VIP Sponsors thereafter and the program, which became open for a $ 5 general admission, began at 8:00 pm. A previously recorded video statement from Manny Pacquiao, viewed through the baseball stadium?s jumbotron wide-screen TV, made the evening truly memorable and exciting. The Laredo Asian Association (of which writer is a board member) expressed their sincere gratitude to Philippine Congressman Manny Pacquiao for generously sharing his time in making a video statement and to Mr. Peter Dumaual, a professional photographer & videographer from Pomona, CA, who assisted in the making of such video.

This was Pacquiao?s message to Laredoans who attended the event: ?Good Evening Laredo, Texas! I hope you are enjoying Asian Night 2012 at the Uni-trade Stadium, in celebration of the year of the dragon. This is Manny Pacquiao and on behalf of the Laredo Asian Association, I would like to thank you for your support and generous contributions. The Laredo Asian Association (LAA) has worked hard to promote Asian Culture to your community. Each year, the Laredo Asian Association provides scholarships to deserving college students. I am proud to be an Asian myself. I have donated signed gloves for the raffle and silent auction. My next fight is on December 8th in Las Vegas, with Juan Manuel Marquez. Please watch our fight, and again, thank you for your support!?

The event culminated with the drawing of Raffle and the results were as follows: Grand Prize Winner (Manny Pacquiao?s autographed boxing gloves) was Ms. Barbara Alarcon; 2nd Prize Winner (Trip to Las Vegas for two) was Mr. Chris Baker; 3rd Prize Winner (Catered Garden Party for 12 @Tokyo Garden Restaurant) was Mrs. Sylvia Ramos, 4th Prize Winner ($ 1,000 Shopping Spree at Mall Del Norte) was Mr. Andy Butler and 5th Prize (Dinner for 6 at Cosmo?s Bar & Grill) was Atty. Alison Haynes.?

During the Silent Auction that ended at 9:30 pm, there were 3 pairs of signed boxing gloves and the total amount generated for those totaled $ 2,450. The pair of Cleto Reyes gloves signed by both Pacquiao and Marquez went to the highest bidder of $ 1,000, which was Eduardo Garza, owner of Uni-trade Group of Companies, who built the baseball stadium for Laredo. Uni-Trade, under the leadership and vision of Mr. Eduardo A. Garza Robles, has become one of the most important and modern customs broker agencies in Laredo, Texas and Mexico. The second pair with a lone signature of Pacquiao went for $ 750 and the one signed by Juan Manuel Marquez went for $ 700. There were several other items sold through the Silent Auction and all proceeds goes towards the Scholarship Fund for deserving college students at Laredo Community College (LCC) and the Texas A & M International University (TAMIU).

The LAA 6th Asian Night was another highly successful occasion and the biggest event for the Uni-trade Stadium this year. Next year the plan of the Laredo Asian Association is to build an Asian Garden at TAMIU which will become the legacy of the organization to the Laredo community. The LAA plan to invite Philippine Congressman Manny Pacquiao to attend the ribbon cutting and inauguration during the 7th Annual Asian Night in late 2013. Laredo has a sizable Asian community and has different ethnic groups including Mexicans that admire Pacquiao?s talents & accomplishments.

LAA presented a special recognition award to Pacquiao last weekend in Los Angeles, CA. The Laredo Asian Association (LAA) President Liling Huang has this to say regarding the upcoming Pacquiao/Marquez 4 bout: ?The Laredo Asian Association (LAA) is 100 percent behind Manny Pacquiao, actually 200%. We cannot express in words how much we appreciate Manny Pacquiao and everything that he has done for the Laredo Asian Association. We have several board members that are going to Las Vegas to support him. We wish him the best of luck in his fight against Juan Manuel Marquez on December 8th.?

When this writer asked the Laredo Mayor what he thought about the Pacquiao/Marquez 4 fight. Hon. Mayor Raul Salinas stated, ?It?s going to be a great, great fight! For me, it will be the fight of the millennium or the fight of the century. I know that you Asians have Manny Pacquiao in your corner and I have never met him but would like to meet him someday. I want to wish him the very best because I know he is an outstanding fighter and a great man. And you know, my friend from Mexico Juan Manuel Marquez told me he?s is ready, so I know it?s going to be a great fight. I don?t predict outcomes but I think the last one standing with less blood will be declared winner. (Laughing)? His final comment was, ?But anyway, give my best regards to Pacquiao!?
