GABUTAN SINGWANGCHA RETAINS WBO ORIENTAL BELT FOR THE 6TH TIME PhilBoxing.com Sun, 14 Oct 2012 Benguet, Philippines - Dayer Gabutan Singwangcha (19-1-2, 9 KOs) of Besao, Mountain Province made a case for being the next mandatory challenger for the WBO bantamweight World Title by destroying a much bigger opponent in Lande Olin (11-4, 7 KOs) of Indonesia via a scintillating 2nd round TKO. Olin came into the fight as the Indonesian bantamweight champion but during the official weigh-in, he tipped the scales at 121 lbs., which was 3 lbs. over the bantamweight limit. That scenario spelled danger for Gabutan Singwangcha as he will be facing a national champion who is bigger than him. The fight was the 6th title defense of Gabutan of his WBO Oriental title. The first round was the usual feeling out round as both fighters trying to scout slowly the style of each other. Halfway into the 1st, Olin released an all-out assault on Singwangcha apparently attempting to intimidate his smaller opponent. However, the Filipino used his ring smarts and wisely moved away from his Indonesian opponent with excellent grace. As the Indonesian tried to pin him into a corner, Singwangcha timely countered a left which landed smack on Olin's jaw. The foreign visitor was down for a mandatory 8-count. The second round was all Singwangcha as he smelled blood. In his barrage of punches, Olin was thrown away in a position which he was turned to his back from his opponent. Clearly dazed, Olin was not able to face Singwangcha in time as the local fighter continued punching his fellow South East Asian. Not in a position to defend himself after absorbing the powerful punches of Singwangcha, the referee decided to stop the fight and awarded the TKO victory to Gabutan Singwangcha. Official time - 1:53 in the 2nd round. The referee was International Boxing Official Atty. Danrex Tapdasan. After the win, Gabutan is now poised to either be ranked No. 1 or 2 in the WBO world rankings in the bantamweight division. Currently ranked No. 4 behind Filipino AJ Banal (No. 1), Thai Pungluang Sor Singyu (No. 2) and Namibian Paulus Ambunda (No. 3), but with the crown being vacant and such title to be contested by Banal and Sor Singyu on October 20, Gabutan is in line to fight for the WBO world title in the near future. The boxing show dubbed as "Boxing For A Cause" was organized by Highland Boxing Promotions owned by Brico Santig in cooperation with the local government of the municipality of La Trinidad, Benguet headed by Mayor Gregorio Abalos, Jr. and support of Thai boxing patron Naris Singwangcha. The proceeds of the promotion will be donated to the kidney patients of La Trinidad and for the re-construction of the St. James High School in Besao, Mountain Province after it was destroyed by fire last June 2 this year. |
