GORRES, BANAL TOP INDON FOES!
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 22 Oct 2006
In contrasting yet impressive fashions, both Z "The Dream" Gorres and Alex John 'Bazooka' Banal hurdled their respective Indonesian foes moments ago at the super jampacked Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
Banal showed his ring brilliance, outboxing and out-foxing the very durable and strong Angky Angkota en route to a lopsided unanimous decision win via scores of 99-90, 100-89, and 98-91.
Gorres, however, proved to be a revelation tonight with a scintillating fourth-round technical knockout win over Sony Manakane.
Gorres befuddled his foe early with a variety of shots, using his elusiveness and ring smarts to outsmart the visitor. In the fourth, Gorres rained a barrage of punches on Manakane, sending the towel flying from the visitor's corner.
Official time of stoppage is 1:11 in the fourth round.
After the win, Gorres said he's now ready for WBO superfly champ Fernando Montiel.
Other results: Milan Milendo by TKO3 over Ricardo Albia; Mark Jason Melligen by UD over Cris Alag; Joseph Omanz by KO1 over Tata Galendez; Dennis Juntillano by UD over Roldan Malinao; Jun Intor by TD7 over Carlo Magale; Weng Haya by UD over Markyll Taroja; Fernando Otik by TKO2 over Elmer Colve; and Gil Melligen by KO2 over Jovi Merca.
