GLENN DONAIRE EYES WORLD TITLE FIGHT By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 21 Mar 2012 Glenn ?The Filipino Bomber? Donaire believes that based on his performance against former two-time world title challenger Omar Salado in which he won a unanimous ten round decision in an action-packed bout, he has earned a crack at a world title. Glenn?s father and trainer Nonito Donaire Sr told the Manila Standard that his son?s promoter Tuto Zabala Jr wants to arrange a title fight, possibly even for a WBC silver title. Donaire Sr said the newly crowned WBC Latino super flyweight champion ?is very sharp now and ready for a world title fight.? Glenn Donaire himself told us in an overseas telephone conversation that he concentrated on training for the Salado fight ?because I have no job right now.? There was a time when Glenn used to work as well as spend time in the gym preparing for fights. His concentration on boxing has paid off. Glenn said ?you?ll see that I?m a different fighter now. I?ve got speed and power.? During the fight Donaire said that after throwing a four-punch combination he felt tired and his father/trainer asked him to go inside because Salado doesn?t hit hard. In fact father/trainer Nonito Donaire Sr said their decision to undergo high altitude training paid off especially in the late rounds when Salado began to put pressure on Glenn knowing he was behind on points. Glenn Donaire, older brother of the better known WBO super bantamweight champion and Ring Magazine No. 4 in the pound for pound rankings didn?t hide the fact that his ambition right now is ?to be a world champion.? The 32 year old Glenn emphasized that even though the fight against Salado was only his second comeback bout after a more than four year layoff following his shutout loss to Ulises Solis in an IBF title fight on July 12, 2008 he is ?ready because I have no job and its all boxing from now on.? Donaire lived up to his pre-fight confidence against Salado even though World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman told us that Salado was ?a good fighter? and he didn?t know much about Glenn Donaire. After the fight the WBC president commended Donaire saying he ?surprised a lot of people here. He is a good fighter with a very big heart.? Donaire said he was grateful to Sulaiman for his comments and wished to thank him as well as all the Filipinos who have supported him in his career. Photo: Glenn Donaire (L) connects at Salado.
