Glenn Donaire victorious in Mexico City
By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 17 Mar 2012
Mexico City - Glenn ? The Filipino Bomber ? Donaire 18-4-1 (10 KOs) brought his rockets to his opponent?s country and used it at will, earning him a 12 round UD victory against Omar Salado 23-4-2 (14 KOs).
Donaire used effective punching and effective ring movement against Salado in a tough 12 round battle against two gritty fighters. Donaire started landing his right hand on Salado in the 2nd round of the fight and that continued until the ?nal bell. Salado though took those rights really well and never backed down as he pressed the Filipino in most rounds of the ?ght. Both fighters engaged in heavy exchanges during the ?ght but Donaire is the more accurate of the two, landing more and landing effectively as well.
Donaire looked strong in his venture in the super flyweight division as he stopped the pressing Mexican with good combinations in the head and the body. But that did not deter Salado from moving towards Donaire?s direction. Donaire then scored big rights in the 10th then he followed that with hooks to the body of Salado who was momentarily halted in his pursuit of the Filipino. The older brother of Nonito Jr. continued his effective punching in the 11th as a solid looping right pursued by a left hook buckled Salado in the round. But that did not bring down the game fighter from Tijuana and finished the round and the 12 round match on his feet.
The come backing Donaire won on all of the three judges scorecards with scores of 116 - 112, 118 -111 and 115 -113. This is Donaire?s second WBC Latino title, having won the flyweight belt in December of last year in Florida. This is also his first fight in the 115 pound division in years after fighting his last six fights under 112 pounds.
