GELLO-ANI BELIEVES FILIPINOS WILL SOON HAVE TO FIGHT FILIPINOS FOR WORLD TITLES
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 15 Mar 2012

Promoter Sammy Gello-ani believes that Filipinos will soon have to fight Filipinos for world titles and that it is no longer possible to avid such confrontations in the ring although he would rather avoid them.
Gello-ani made the comment in an interview with the Manila Standard in the face of the situation in the WBO flyweight division where Brian Viloria is the champion, undefeated Milan Melindo of the famed ALA Gym is ranked No. 1, Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar No. 2 and OPBF champion Rocky Fuentes is No. 4.
Gello-ani said ?I am against Filipinos fighting Filipinos for world titles but when things are in place and we have to fight there is no choice, we have to fight.?
He pointed out that ?this is the situation of Saludar right now in the ratings. This is good for boxing. If things will come to a certain point where they have to meet because its mandatory but if the competition needs to have a champion then we are willing and ready anytime ?
Saludar (R).
Gello-ani and WBO Asia Pacific vice president Leon Panoncillo reacted positively to a proposal for an elimination tournament featuring the four ranked Filipinos with the winners clashing for the title much like the Showtime series.
Panoncillo and Gello-ani said ?it?s a good idea and it can be done that way but the promoter will have to spend so much.?
During a press conference to promote this Saturday?s blockbuster fight card at the Hoops Dome in Lapu Lapu City, Gello-ani pointed to the fact that Mexican face Mexicans all the time for world and regional titles and the Philippines can no longer buck the trend and protect our fighters from facing each other.
