FLOYD MAYWEATHER CALLS OUT MANNY PACQUIAO..IN TWITTER By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Wed, 11 Jan 2012 A day after Manny Pacquiao gave out his only interview here in Philboxing regarding his stand on fighting Floyd Mayweather and the issues surrounding it, Mayweather was not to be outdone himself. He released a statement or a ?tweet? challenging Pacquiao by way of his of?cial twitter account, @FloydMayweather. ?Manny Pacquiao, I am calling you out let?s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see.? was his first statement by way of the mentioned social media. He issued another tweet right after that saying ?My Jail Sentence was pushed back because the date was locked in, Step up Punk.? The ?tweet? drew reactions from all corners of the boxing world instantly. Twitter, Facebook and various boxing forum websites were busy bees today as everyone threw in their cents worth of opinion into this issue. Manny Pacquiao made it clear yesterday in an interview with Philboxing scribe Eddie Alinea that fighting Floyd Mayweather is his top priority. ?I?ve said this over and over before and I?m saying this again,I want Floyd Mayweather Jr. to be my next opponent and I haven?t changed my choice despite recent developments.? Pacquiao told Alinea. The internet abounds with articles blaming Pacquiao for not making the fight happen after Mayweather?s jail sentence for pleading guilty to a domestic battery case was moved from last week to June 1st by a Las Vegas judge. His promoter Bob Arum had expressed doubts that the much anticipated bout between the two will happen owing to logistical issues. He also mentioned that Pacquiao may not be cleared to ?ght on May 5 because of the cut he suffered in his last fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. Floyd Mayweather and Golden Boy Promotions has secured that date in Las Vegas months ago. It was also a basis of the judge?s ruling that favored Mayweather?s request for a delay of his jail sentence which would have started last January 6. ?It?s not really fair for some quarters to blame me if, in the long run, the fight wouldn?t push through, As I have also been saying many times before, I fight for the fans. I want the fans to be happy always.? Pacquiao was quoted as a response to all that was written about him in the past few days by various blogs and boxing web sites. ?Whoever says I?m ducking this fighter or that fighter, doesn?t know me, or just plainly wants to put me in bad light, I never dodged from fighting anybody. If I did, I won?t be where I am now.? he declared. The clamor for this fight has grown and will continue to grow as the days go by. It has twice been stalled in the past due to various issues but it has not dampen the clamor of the boxing community and its fans for it. Any of the two boxer?s remarks pertaining to it whether it be by an interview or by any form will be big news to all that anticipates for the ?Fight of the Century? to happen.
