Albert Pagara replaces ?El Matador? in Pinoy Pride 9
By Jerome S. Galunan Jr. PhilBoxing.com Mon, 03 Oct 2011
Albert Pagara (L) sends his opponent outside the ropes in his last fight.
Seventeen-year-old and undefeated prospect Albert ?Prince? Pagara will be stepping in for Arthur ?El Matador? Villaueva after the latter suffered a serious finger injury last Saturday ? less than a week before the much awaited Pinoy Pride 9: WBO World Lightflyweight Championship set Oct. 8 at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum here in Bacolod City.
This was confirmed yesterday by ALA Promotions Director for Marketing and Media Relations Chad Ca?ares.
Pagara, who has an impressive record of 7-0 with six knockouts, will be facing the 26-year-old Madilu with 12-6-3, also with six KOs.
Earlier, ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer stressed that Pagara might be too young and inexperienced but this is now the chance for him to show what he can do.
On the other hand, at press time, the 22-year-old Villanueva is scheduled to undergo operation on his damaged finger at the Corazon Locsin-Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
In an interview with Villanueva, the Bago City-native boxer really felt bad with what happened.
?I trained hard and prepared well for the fight. I believed that I can beat the Kenyan. I apologized to my followers to what happened. And most especially to Sir ALA [Aldeguer], Sir Monju [Guanzon] and Rev. [Henry] Guanzon,? Villanueva said with teary eyes.*
