Barrera wants Pacman; Gabi will bounce back, etc.

PhilBoxing.com

The biggest event we've all been waiting for is about to come.

The World Boxing Council (WBC) super featherweight crown-holder Marco Antonio Barrera of Mexico is now picking up a fight against the Philippines' Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao. Barrera has just signified his intention to go ahead with his mandatory title defense against Pacquiao through a faxed communication sent by the WBC headquarters to GAB Chairman Eric R. Buhain dated march 06, 2006.

Here's the text of Sulaiman's letter:

To: Mr. Manny Pacquiao, Mr.Shelly Finkel, Mr.Gary Shaw and Mr.Eric Buhain

From: Jose Sulaiman Ch.

Dear Champion and Friends, The WBC super featherweight champion of the world Marco Antonio Barrera has contacted the WBC to let us know that he is ready and willing to make his WBC mandatory defense against Manny Pacquiao. It is absolutely necessary that you inform us within 7 days, as requested before, if you accept the official challenger position and if you are ready to fight Marco Barrera for the WBC's super featherweight championship of the world. Please accept my respectful regards."

This is the whole content of the official communication sent by Sulaiman copies of which were furnished to all the Board of Governors of the WBC, the Games and Amusements Board of the Philippines and the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation.

Also in another fax message the WBC President is informing the Filipino champion Manny Pacquiao of this recent development and expecting him to answer within the same period of seven (7) days in order to commence the preparation of the schedule big event. If this happens, this will probably be the greatest boxing event in the history of the WBC super featherweight boxing division. The mother of all fights, so to speak.

Chairman Eric R. Buhain of the GAB as one of the sitting Board of Governors of the WBC and as the Vice-President of the OPBF sent immediate instructions to the Boxing Division of the agency to do the necesary contacts with the people handling Manny Pacquiao."This is the biggest event we have been waiting for to transpire," Buhain stated regarding the information he got from Mr. Sulaiman, the big boss of the popular WBC.

GABI WILL BOUNCE BACK. It was an off-night on the part of the Philippines' Diosdado Gabi, but its not over yet for his career as a professional boxer. We are saddened by the defeat of Gabi via KO to Australian Vic "The Raging Bull" Darchinyan, the reigning IBF-IBO fly weight champion with a fight record of 25 wins without any losses and most af all came by way of a knock out.

I was with the Congressman of Bacolod City Monico O. Puentevella at his residence together with some village leaders and sports enthusiasts of the city to witness and cheer before the Solar Sports coverage of the Darchinyan-Gabi IBF-IBO championship fight. But it was not an easy victory on the part of Vic Darchinyan. Gabi did his best. He fought squarely until the eighth (8) round when he was stopped by a solid straight left by the calibered Vic. We must concede that inspite of Freddie Roach's great coaching and the scientific training earned by Gabi, the Australian champ had an over powering combinations of killer punches that brought down Gabi. But its alright. So far, out of the many victories we have garnered out of Pacquiao, Boom-Boom Bautista, Rodel Mayol, Brian Villoria, Jimrex Jaca among others, we as of now suffered only one defeat. And we are hoping to come out victorious once again in the next fights as part of the country's continued campaign for global excellence through pro boxing.

Its not over yet.For the 26 year old Gabi , there are still plenty of fights left for him in the near future. Time, proper training and more patience will heal the wounds of Dadong Gabi. Everybody at some point in their lives experience the pain of losing. Manny Pacquaio loses too. What is vital now is that as Filipinos, we should always stand united and even if we fall let us not divide. We have to extend our hands to losing compatriots who are offering their lives fighting for the honor and glory of this nation.
