Possible Pacquiao Opponents on Showcase as Solar Sports Airs Martinez-Dzinziruk and Alvarez-Hatton
PhilBoxing.com Tue, 08 Mar 2011

After his big one-punch knockout win over Paul Williams last year, Sergio Martinez (46-2-2, 25 KOs) was mentioned by a lot of boxing aficionados as a possible opponent for Manny Pacquiao who was then holding the WBC super welterweight title. Pacquiao, who wasn’t exactly thrilled with the idea of fighting north of the welterweight limit again, shot down the idea.
The big win catapulted Martinez to the Top 3 pound-for-pound rankings of Ring Magazine but he has since lost that spot to Nonito Donaire. Maravilla, as he is known, aims to get this spot back as he battles the undefeated Serhiy Dzinziruk (37-0-0, 23 KOs).
Martinez is currently the fourth ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world and he also holds the Ring Magazine belt in the middleweight division. Dzinziruk on the other hand is the eighth ranked fighter in the junior middleweight division.
The Martinez-Dzinziruk fight will be aired back-to-back with the match between the brightest prospect in Mexican boxing, Saul Alvarez (35-0-1, 26 KOs), and Matthew Hatton (41-4-2, 16 KOs) of United Kingdom.
Alvarez is being groomed by Golden Boy Promotions as the next big thing in Mexican boxing and if all goes into plan, a match against Pacquiao will be the culmination of this kid’s rise to the top.
Both Martinez and Alvarez have Pacquiao on their radar. Catch these fights on March 13 starting at 1 pm for a look at who could be Pacquiao’s future opponents.
