'ROBOCOP' ORCULLO CAPTURES ELUSIVE WORLD 8-BALL TITLE IN FUJAIRAH By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Sun, 27 Feb 2011 Dennis Orcullo. FILIPINOS have another reason to be proud when it comes to billiards. Dennis "Robocop" Orcullo has bagged another crown to add to his collection as he defeated Neils "The Terminator" Feijen of the Netherlands, 10-3, in the finals to win the World 8-Ball Pool Championship 2011 at the Fujairah Exhibition Center in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates on Saturday (Manila Time). Though he won so many championships in his career in billiards including the World Pool League, World Pool Masters, Derby City Classic, US Bar Table, Billiards Congress of America, Orcullo, the top player of the star-studded Bugsy Promotions said it has always been his dream to win the WPA World 8-Ball title. "Sa wakas natupad na din ang pangarap kong maging world champion sa WPA World 8-Ball," said the former fisherman from Bislig, Surigao del Sur Orcullo whose stint here is supported by Bugsy Promotions, Hermes Sports, ACCEL and Malungay Life Oil. According to Ceferino "Perry" Mariano, the president of the star-studded Bugsy Promotions and long-time benefactor of Orcullo, WPA World 8-Ball was the missing link in his career. "Salamat sa Diyos ito na lang ang missing sa career ni Dennis,? said Mariano, also the founder of the National Collegiate Billiards League (NCBL) or B-League. Orcullo had to play in local qualifiers to get into the tournament and he was making the most of the opportunity, took a 5-0 commanding lead before a scratched in the side pocket in game 6 allowing Feijen to win the first rack, 5-1. Another two consecutive racks as Feijen sliced the gap at 5-3 count. It was the last rack of Feijen as Orcullo clustered five straight racks for a 10-3 victory. During the semi-finals, Orcullo defeated David "El Matador" Alcaide of Spain, 9-3, while Feijen blanked 2009 World Ten Ball Champion Darren "Dynamite" Appleton of the United Kingdom, 9-0. Orcullo went home with the top prize of US$ 40,000 while Feijen got a runner-up prize of US$ 25,000. Alcaide dominated Appleton, 9-2, a playoff for third place.Alcaide received third prize of US$ 14,000 while Appleton satisfied fourth prize of US$10,000. With his latest feat, Orcullo joined the ranks of countrymen WPA (World Pool-Billiards Association) Champion in the likes of Efren "Bata" Reyes (1999 WPA World 9-Ball in Cardiff Wales and 2005 WPA World 8-Ball in Fujairah), Alex "The Lion" Pagulayan (2004 WPA World 9-Ball in Cardiff Wales), Ronato "Volcano" Alcano (2006 WPA World 9-Ball in Manila and 2007 World 8-Ball In Fujairah), Rubilen "Bingkay"Amit (2009 WPA Womens World 10-Ball in Manila), who have won world titles in 9-ball, 8-ball and 10-ball.
