SALUDAR RETAINS WBO ASIA PACIFIC YOUTH TITLE WITH SPECTACULAR KO By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 23 Dec 2010 Undefeated Froilan ?The Sniper? Saludar retained his WBO Asia Pacific Youth flyweight title with a spectacular 2nd round knockout of Philippines No.2 and Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation No. 6 challenger Jecker Buhawe before a large crowd in Imus, Cavite, Wednesday. The knockout came at 4 seconds before tnhe end of the round. WBO Asia Pacific vice president Leon Panoncillo who was the fight supervisor told the Inquirer that Saludar was ?outstanding and even better than the last time when he won the title with a very impressive showing? scoring a 1st round knockout over Remuel Obidos to win the vacant title last November 20 also in Imus.. Referee Danrex Tapdasan said Saludar dominated the opening round in which Buhawe nearly went down from a solid left hook but he was ?brave and durable and survived.? Tapdasan reported that in the first minute of the second round Saludar ?unleashed a left hook just as Buhawe also threw a left and dropped the challenger who was really shaky.? The referee gave Buhawe ?another chance because it was a championship fight and Buhawe was brave.? However, another devastating left hook sent Buhawe crashing to the canvas. He was out cold and referee Tapdasan didn?t even bother to count.? Games and Amusements Board ring doctor Redentor Viernes attended to the fallen fighter for almost five minutes before he was helped to his stool Promoter Sammy Gello-ani who is working with international promoter and matchmaker Sampson Lewkowicz in a ?New Prospect? series that seeks to discover promising young fighters, plans on promoting a WBO World Youth Championship in February against a highly credible opponent from Mexico or Thailand. Panoncillo said Saludar showed ?extraordinary abilities that wowed me. I could not believe how confident he was and how he made it look so easy against a rated opponent? with a record of 10 wins against only 2 losses. The WBO executive was all praises for the hard-hitting Saludar who improved to 10-0 with 7 knockouts, claiming that ?of all the prospects I have seen throughout the years in the Philippines I am sure this kid will turn out into something special.? He said Gello-ani and Lewkowicz who previously promoted former WBO super flyweight champion ?Marvelous? Marvin Sonsona who was knocked out in four rounds in a WBO super bantamweight title fight against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr and Cisco ?Kid Terrible? Morales who was knocked out in the 1st round in a super flyweight title clash against Fernando Montiel have ?finally produced a fighter that is worth promoting.?
