All set for Gerry?s last fight

PhilBoxing.com

ZAMBOANGA CITY - All is set for the last fight of former WBO bantamweight and WBC superflyweight champion Gerry Pe?alosa.

At the weigh-in Saturday, Pe?alosa and his opponent, Thailand?s Yodsaenkeng Kietmangmee stood face-to-face at the Grand Astoria Hotel while Congressman Enrico Basilio Fabian, who co-promotes the big event, watched behind the fighters. Fabian also faced Kietmangmee and jokingly raised a fist at him which drew laughter from the crowd.

Kietmangmee appeared in good condition while Pe?alosa seemed weak because of dehydration upon losing some weight. Both made it to the set weight of 118lbs.

Despite his condition and his wife Goody?s worrying, the Filipino boxer who has a 54-8-2 win-loss-draw card with 36 knockouts expressed his excitement and assured his fans that he will give his best in his last hurrah. His two children, Julio Ceasar and Julienne Gayle, along with Goody?s entire family, are set to watch Pe?alosa 10-round bout in
?Golpe Golpe na Zamboanga: The Last Hurrah? at the Zamboanga City Coliseum.

This world-class boxing event is part of the city?s annual Hermosa Festival and is expected to make the city known in the country and the world as a sports destination. Tickets are sold out and the whole city as well as the entire Western Mindanao region, are excited to witness the 50-round fight card presented by Blue Stallion Promotions
and EBAF Productions. Five years ago, Pe?alosa was also set to have a fight in Zambo but was canceled because of a bombing incident.

The former two division world champion is fighting for Z ?The Dream? Gorres whose boxing career ended when he had brain injury in 2009 after his Las Vegas fight against Colombian Luis Melendez. Pe?alosa wants to help Gorres in his medical expenses.

Fabian, on the other hand, has chosen Zamboanga?s Philippine National Red Cross local chapter as a beneficiary of the bout. Michael Fare?as also faces Korean Jung-Hoon Kim and Jimrex Jaca fights another Korean, Jong-Yoon Choi in this event.
