GORRES, NIETES DAD CONFIDENT OF DONNIE'S WIN
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sat, 14 Aug 2010

MANDAUE CITY--He may be fighting in enemy territory practically alone except for a few members of his team, but WBO minimumweight champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes can always count on the fervent prayers from his father as well as ex-boxer Z Gorres, his neighbor in Mandaue City.
Gorres, who lives right next to Nietes' newly-built house in a quite neighborhood in this city, yesterday wished Nietes the best of luck, while at the same time expressing confidence that his former stablemate will be able to thwart whatever arsenal Mexican Mario Rodriguez brings into the show on Sunday, RP time.
Nietes will defend his WBO title for the fourth time on Sunday in Guasave, Los Mochis, Mexico, and will aim to become of the Philippines' longest reigning world champions in recent time. The bout will be aired live by GMA-7 starting 3PM this Sunday while its affiliate radio stations will broadcast the fight.
Nietes' father, Josue, who is taking care of the new house while his son is away to do battle in Mexico, said he is not worried about this Sunday's fight, knowing fully well the preparation his son has undergone to prepare for this duel.
"I'm no longer worry about it that much. My son prepared very, very hard and well for this fight. God knows that, and God will do the rest," said Josue, who added that his wife will also be arriving from Bacolod City to join him here.
Some of Nietes's neighbors are also wishing him luck for the fight, noting that the ALA fighter has remained humble despite the fame that he has earned inside the squared arena.
