AWESOME SAUL ALVAREZ BATTERS CUELLO TO WIN BY A 6TH ROUND TKO

PhilBoxing.com

One of the brightest hopes of Mexico for a world title, popular Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez has scored a devastating 6th round TKO over Argentina?s game but outclassed Luciano ?El Principito" Cuello in Jalisco, Mexico to win the WBC silver light middleweight title.

The awesome Mexican who WBC president Don Jose Sulaiman told us some time ago would surely emerge as a world champion, battered Cuello in six lopsided rounds before the referee decided to stop what was turning into a massacre.

Well known boxing writer James Blears of boxingscene.com reported that Alvarez ?who looked awesomely strong, shook Cuello time and again, bloodied his nose and mouth, worked his body and was dominant throughout.?

The fight which was shown on the increasingly popular wbcboxing.tv helped further impress fight fans in the Philippines as Alvarez demonstrated his class. A perfect left hook in round one dropped Cuello who courageously withstood the beating.

Alvarez showed no mercy as he cracked Cuello with a vicious left uppercut and followed up with a snappy, short right hand that sent the Argentine to the canvas for a second time.

The battering continued as a back-pedaling Cuello was nailed by Alvarez in round four and appeared ready to go but he gamely survived while in round five another left hook almost dropped the outclassed Cuello.

A low blow gave Cuello a much-needed respite and in round six Cuello decided to stand and slug it out before Alvarez ripped him with a right to the body followed by a solid left to the midsection forced referee Len Koivisto to step in and call it off.

The 19 year old Alvarez who remains undefeated improved his record to 33-0-1 with 15 knockouts while the 26 year old Cuello dropped to 26-2 with 12 knockouts.

Alvarez was coming off an impressive 9th round TKO over Jose Miguel Cotto, brother of Puerto Rico?s light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto last May 1 while Cuello had scored a ten round unanimous decision over Carlos Velasquez to win the WBC Latino interim welterweight title on December 12, 2009.

Cuello is best known for the rough time he gave Julio Cesar Chavez Jr when he dropped a controversial ten round decision to the ?Son of the Legend? in a WBC Latino light middleweight title fight on March 28, 2009.
