BROSAS: I’LL WIN FOR THE COUNTRY PhilBoxing.com Wed, 19 Oct 2005 VETERAN Filipino boxer Carlito Brosas aims to give his countrymen another reason to be proud of when he represents the Philippines against Chinese juggernaut Xhi Lin Xia for the vacant World Boxing Empire (WBE) Asia Pacific welterweight title on October 29 at the Mandaluyong Sports Complex. “Pride natin bilang mga Pilipino ang nakataya rito kaya gagawin ko ang lahat para hindi tayo mapahiya,” said Brosas, a native of San Juan, Metro Manila who used to fight out of Hollywood, California in 2001. “I expect na gagawin din niya ang lahat ng magagawa niya (Xia) para talunin ako, kaya asahan nang giyera talaga ang mangyayari sa ring.” Brosas admitted that he has no idea about Xia’s boxing style but claimed that he’s ready on whatever the Chinese will bring into the scheduled 12-round rumble being bankrolled by top Filipino boxing patron Gabriel Elorde Jr., Mayor Boyet Gonzales of Mandaluyong and Marc Roces of Jemah Communications. Xia, alias "Rock", was the first registered Chinese prizefighter, is 25-years old, 6-foot tall, right-handed and with a 75 inches wingspan. He has nine professional fights with 7 wins and 2 loses with 3 of those wins coming by way of knockout. On his personal intention, the 5-foot-10 Brosas attempts to re-solidify his standing as one of the game's premiere welterweights and win a belt for the first time. The Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) and WBE Asia Pacific Boxing Association currently rate him No. 6 and No. 3, respectively. The weekly Elorde Boxing Special will televise the title fight, dubbed “Eastern Brawl”, on Thursday, November 5, 9-10 p.m. over IBC Channel 13. |
