ALA PROMOTIONS SET TO GO GLOBAL By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 29 Apr 2010 After more than 25 years of lording it over in the local scene, delivering some of the most memorable fights in Cebu, ALA Promotions has announced it will now go global and take on the big boys to deliver the kind of quality work it has always been known for in promoting fighters. "We feel this is now the time to go to the next level. From now on, we will not only be promoting ALA fighters, but other Filipino boxers as well like Jimrex Jaca," stressed Michael Aldeguer, president of the ALA Promotions, during a press conference with Cebu media. Dubai's next event Aldeguer, who has just arrived after a successful Dubai promotion, informed that Zac Taumafai has already booked a follow-up event on October 29 which will be held at the oil-rich city's Dubai Tennis Stadium. "We might bring in Boom-Boom Bautista again in Dubai, and of course, we are also looking at a possible bigger fight which may pit Erik Morales against Mark Jason Melligen or a rematch between Jimrex Jaca and Juan Manuel Marquez," added the youthful boxing patron. More Events Aside from the Dubai plans, negotiations are also underway for Bautista to see action in Virginia, USA sometime June or July. "We are now bent on doing a macro approach, instead of micro," explained Aldeguer, who also announced that former world champion Katsunari Takayama of Japan is already signed up under the ALA outfit and will fight on May 22 in Mandaue City. Another negotiation being put on the table is with Japanese boxing impresario Joe Koizumi regarding the career of the stone-fisted Randy "Komong Bato" Suico. "That is not yet final, but there are negotiations," qualified Aldeguer. Also on May 23, ALA Promotions will present an intriguing card at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel pitting Michael Domingo against Colombian Luis Melendez. Also set to see action in the card is Jimrex Jaca who will battle James Kimori of Kenya. "The point here we are trying to make is now, you don't have to fly to Las Vegas to see world-class events, we can hold them right here in Cebu, and this is something geared towards sports tourism." On the same show, Jason Pagara is set to do battle against Romeo Jakosalem, while James Bacon takes on Leonardo Doronio. Nietes Title Bout Aldeguer also informed that WBO minimumweight champion Donnie Nietes will defend his title on July 17 against top-ranked Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago, the WBO Youth title-holder, at the La Salle Gym in Bacolod. Prior to that, on June 26, AJ Banal and Brian Viloria are penciled to co-headline a big card in Cebu City. Aldeguer, meanwhile, emphasized that they are not tied down to any network, and will work with ABS-CBN, GMA, and Solar Sports in presenting some of the biggest events under its outfit.
