MELLIGEN DETERMINED TO SCORE IMPRESSIVE WIN OVER GONZALEZ
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Wed, 24 Mar 2010

Filipino welterweight Mark Jason Melligen is determined to score an impressive win over tough Mexican Norberto Gonzalez when they clash over ten rounds at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas on April 10 in a fight card to be covered by Fox Sports TV network in the U.S.
Tony Martin, who trains Melligen in Las Vegas, told us that “training us going well” and that this time he is “concentrating on increasing Mark’s speed, combination punching and aggressiveness added with more upper body and head movement.”
Both Martin, a longtime Cebu resident and the southpaw Melligen, realize that his lackluster showing against Michel Rosales when he lost a split decision upset Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who gave him one more chance to redeem himself in a fight on the “Pinoy Power III/Latin Fury 13” fight card at the Las Vegas Hilton last February 13.
Melligen did well to score a 6th round TKO over previously undefeated Raymond Gatica (11-0, 6 KO’s) and Arum told us he would continue to promote him.
Martin informed us that Melligen will be sparring on Thursday and Saturday with three or four different sparring partners ranging from 140 pounds to 154 pounds with heights ranging from 5’8” to 5’11” and that the next week will be Melligen’s last week of sparring and hard training..
Martin won’t underestimate Melligen’s opponent Gonzalez who has a record of 18-1 with 12 knockouts. The 28 year old Mexican is coming off a twelve round unanimous decision over Manuel Garcia to win the vacant Mexican welterweight title.
Garcia is reportedly tough and his 12 knockouts in 19 fights prove he can punch.
