“Talkin Boxing with Billy C.“: Team Predictions for Bradley vs. Campbell

PhilBoxing.com

On Saturday, August 1st at Agua Caliente Resort and Casino in Rancho Mirage, CA. Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley will put his WBO Jr. Welterweight Strap on the line against Nate “The Galaxy Warrior” Campbell.

The Undefeated Champion is looking to further make his case as a potential Pound for Pound Champion against the rugged veteran and former Lightweight Champion, Nate Campbell.

This one looks to be a sure fire action packed bout and all the action can be seen on Showtime Championship Boxing on Saturday night at 9:00 PM (EST/PST)

The Team at “Talkin Boxing with Billy C.” checks in with their predictions for the fight.

Amy Green- “Woman’s Boxing Report”

I like Campbell over Bradley due to his veteran experience and the fact he is extremely tenacious when pressed, which brings out the warrior in him, more so than Bradley. Baby Bull disintegrated in the face of his pressure and Campbell has the ability to take the wind out of the Desert Storm's sails.

Emily Harney- The “Queen of Boxing”

I am taking Bradley by KO. I think he is a stronger fighter with more KO power and as much as I love Nate, I think he may be in for a really tough fight.

Elke Vivona- New York Reporter

I have to say that I'm leaning towards Tim Bradley for the win. He is defensively sound. He's in his prime. He's younger, faster and in excellent shape. I don't want to take anything away from Campbell who is an experienced fighter and a great one at that. I have to say that Bradley’s win over Holt made me a fan. Bradley stepped up his competition three times and walked away with the win each time. I think this will be one more "W" for him.

John Robbins- Canadian Correspondent

Here's my pick for this week-ends Super Fight for the WBO Super Lightweight strap!

I have to go with the almost 3-1 underdog Nate Campbell in this Super Fight for the WBO Super Lightweight strap! However, this truly is a seriously tough fight to predict. Both men have extremely impressive resumes, with the 12 year younger, reigning World Champion Timothy Bradley, still holding on to an undefeated record... But, with Campbell making a much needed jump in weight for this massive match-up, I am expecting to see a revitalized crafty veteran, with a lot of power to accompany his experience, in the ring for the main event Saturday night in California. So I'm picking "The Galaxy Warrior" to be the one with his hand raised, after what should be an all out war for the WBO Super Lightweight Title!

Scott Crouse- Ballroom Boxing

Kendall Holt asked Timothy Bradley during the referee's instructions prior to their championship fight in April, "ARE YOU READY FOR THIS HEART?" Holt then proceeded to knock Bradley down in the first and last rounds, but lost the fight because he did virtually nothing else in between. Bradley won't be receiving the same gracious treatment from Nate Campbell this Saturday night when they fight for Bradley's WBO Junior Welterweight title. Campbell may be twelve years older than Bradley, but it's a hardened, battle-tested twelve years, while Bradley's gone from prospect to contender practically overnight. He's had some decent wins, namely versus Junior Witter and Kendall Holt, and looks to be a talented, young fighter with a bright future. But Campbell's paid his dues and risen to the top the hard way and he eats fighters with unblemished records and bright futures for breakfast (see Juan Diaz and Kid Diamond). While neither fighter can afford to lose, I believe a loss is far more damaging to Campbell. He needs and wants this more than Bradley and no amount of Campbell's Soup jokes will deter him. Bradley can flex for the cameras all he wants. It's not the fighter with the biggest muscles that wins the fight, but the fighter with the biggest heart--and that belongs to "The Galaxy Warrior." And that's something I don't think Bradley's ready for. Campbell will win by 12-round decision.

Marc Abrams- 15rounds.com

Bradley by unanimous decision...Naturally bigger and stronger and younger

Dave Wilcox- West Coast Correspondent

Bradley should be the favorite coming in, and is. He is younger and quicker and has proven that he is one of the best young champions in the sport. Having said that, I have the feeling that Nate Campbell has the toughness and power to overcome his disadvantages in this one. I feel Bradley start strong, but as the fight wears on, Nate Campbell will start to see his right hand find its home consistently and will knockout the younger champion in round 9.

Billy C. - Our fearless Leader and Host of the show

I think this is a VERY tough fight to pick. Nate Campbell is the cagey veteran that is getting another chance at a world Title. He knows how to win and has come back from defeat many times. He knows when opportunity knocks and knows how to take advantage of that opportunity. He beat one of the best when he won the title from Juan Diaz. Timothy Bradley showed us in his last fight that he CAN be stopped by being dropped during the fight, and Nate certainly has to power to do it and I think he is a very good finisher. I think Nate will try to get inside and stop Bradley by working the body and waiting for an opening to test Bradley's chin. With that said, I think Father Time has a very nasty way of showing us when it's over for a fighter and I think Bradley's speed and boxing ability combined with his youth will help him score points and win rounds.Nate's chance to win this fight will be by a KO, but I think Bradley knows this and should have put together a game plan which will keep him on his feet, snapping his jab and landing hard shots from a safe distance. This will be an entertaining fight, the classic youth vs. veteran and both fighters will have their moments. It reminds me of one of my favorite boxing stories written by Jack London, "A piece of Steak". But as in that great short story, and as we have seen so often in this sport and every other sport, youth will prevail. Timothy Bradley by decision

Some friends of the show also wanted to weight in with their picks

William Trillo- www.pound4pound.com

Nate is going to look great at the start of this fight and he will appear to have Bradley's number early. Bradley, with the help of the hometown crowd, will again have to get up after a knockdown (or 2) to get himself back into the fight. After 12 hard fought and very entertaining bout the fight will be declared a DRAW!

“The Sportsgod” Dave Smith- Los Angeles Sports-Talk Radio Host

Campbell by decision

Ken Hissner- Boxing Writer

I believe Tim Bradley will decision Nate Campbell who is stepping up in weight.

Brett McCauley- Loyal Listener and Contributor

I think Bradley is too young and fast for Campbell. I like Bradley by UD.

Dave Murphy- Boxing Historian

I’m going with Nate Campbell by Decision. I think Bradley is a little overrated based on wins over Witter and Holt that aren’t as impressive as some are judging them to be. I think Nate’s got the experience on him and it will show as the fight wears on.

Kent Ares- Boxing Expert

Bradley by Split Decision over Campbell

Rusty Rubin- Founder and Managing Editor for Ringsports Magazine and Ringsports.com

The veteran Campbell is the harder puncher, but hasn’t fought much or looked very sharp the past couple of years. At 37, his best days may be well behind him, but he is a gamer.

Bradley, 24-0, (11) is just 25. He beat Kendall Holt in his last fight and is much faster and much the better boxer.

So it’s speed vs. power in this interesting match-up and if Campbell can’t find a way to knock Bradley out, he should find himself on the short side of a possible lop-sided decision. It could well be the end of Campbell’s illustrious career.

Since Bradley has shown he can take a good punch, I’ll pick him to win by a unanimous decision.
