LAPUT TO DEFEND WBO INT. TITLE IN THE CAYMAN ISLANDS! PhilBoxing.com Sun, 22 Feb 2009 Ramie Laput the WBO #7 rated Jr Featherweight is set to defend his WBO InterContinental superbantam title on April 24th in the beautiful Cayman Islands just off the coast of the USA. Laput 36 wins 3 losses is slated to defend his WBO InterCont championship in the Carribean Nation on the undercard of the WBC Superwelterweight showdown between American challenger Charles Whittaker and WBC Champion Vernon Forrest. The event to be promoted by Gary Shaw productions and Showtime will be Laput's first big opportunity to show his mettle on a big fight card outside the Philippines. Laput the former RP champion and a husband and father of 2 boys from the Compestella Valley has seen his career skyrocket since joining the team of Ken Smith and American Boxing Academy. Smith said "Ramie is the most disciplined fighter I have worked with. The relationship that he and Norman have formed has made an incredible difference in his fighting style, Ramie is more complete now". Laput will arrive at the American Boxing Academy in Digos City Philippines later this week followed by world title challenger Whittaker who will be arriving from Florida USA to begin their approximately two-month training camp with head trainer "Storman" Norman Wilson. Wilson stated "We are going to have a world class training camp for Charles and Ramie, these guys are gonna train like they have never trained before, this for the world championship and Charles has worked his whole life for this, we are gonna be ready". When asked who Laput will fight Laput's manager and ABA boss Ken Smith responded "the opponent and details for Laputs bout are still being negotiated, we are looking for a good American or Mexican opponent for Ramie to defend his title against and it should be finalized any day". Also on hand and running the daily operations at American Boxing Academy and scheduled to make the Cayman Island trip is ABA second Glen Salazar. |
