“FIGHT NIGHT” BOXING TOUR BEGINS

PhilBoxing.com

Malcolm Tunacao.

Cool, fresh, natural drinking water and peak boxing performance come together in exciting boxing events in major cities of Visayas and Mindanao with the Summit Natural Drinking Water “FIGHT NIGHT” Boxing Tour. The fiery encounters will rock the boxing stadiums every month, starting with its launching card on September 20 at the Mandaue City Plaza.

Philippine No. 1 contender Malcolm “Eagle Eye” Tuñacao will face a new generation of prize fighter in RP No. 2 Monico Laurente for the vacant Philippine bantamweight championship crown.

Former “Golden Boy of Cebu Boxing” Tuñacao earned a rare distinction in 2000 for being the only Filipino world champion in that year when he destroyed World Boxing Council flyweight champion Medgoen Singsurat. After a year away from the sports to let his injured wrist heal completely, he re-enters the professional boxing scene in May with an impressive first round TKO of Tanzanian warrior Rashid Ally at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel.

Title rival Laurente hails from the reputed stable of Hall-of-Famer Gabriel “Flash” Elorde in Parañaque City and has risen to become the second top warrior in the Philippine bantamweight division in only three years. He failed twice in his two attempts to wrist regional titles in the division, and this month's contest for the Philippine rule will be his chance to finally win that elusive championship title.

The undercard drumbeats with a chance for pugilists in their losing streak to redeem themselves with a breakthrough win against formidable opponents at their level, mostly undefeated fighters in their young pro boxing careers. All fighters had their career debuts this year.

The opening bout sets up Albert Villacampa of Bantayan Island against Lapu-lapu son Loloy de la Pena in the 112-pound category.

Lightweight Joel “Yao Ming” Zaspa of Bantayan Island will face the challenge of debutante Janlee Paingol of the Gov. Yebes Stable of Dipolog City in a 4-round exchange.

Leo Torres of Eastern Samar will show Boholano Powell Balaba of Tagbilaran City that winning would continue to be difficult in the minimumweight division. Ronilo Lawis of San Miguel Bohol follows the conflict with a heart-stopping battle against Butuanon Ramil Cabalan of DBP stable to close the four-rounders.

Super bantamweight Larry “Bonjovi” Canillas of Toledo City will have a six-round face off against Andelo Adajar of DBP stable of Butuan City.

For half of the fighters in this Summit launcher, a breakthrough win could mean new life in their loss-battered young careers. For the other half, it will be their chance to prove they can hold their ground against strongly motivated warriors in search for redemption.

The tour series is presented by premier boxing promoter ALA Promotions in partnership with Summit Natural Drinking Water, in cooperation with the Mandaue City Government. The tour will visit key cities such as Cagayan de Oro, Davao, Tagbilaran, Bacolod, and more fights in Cebu cities.
