VORAPIN HITS CEBU TODAY; SAYS EXPERIENCE WILL PREVAIL PhilBoxing.com Thu, 11 Sep 2008 "Experience kills." This was what former WBO bantam king Ratanachai Sor Vorapin said when he noted that experience will play a crucial role in his bout against WBO Oriental bantam champ Michael Domingo on Sunday at the New Cebu Coliseum. Vorapin, ranked WBO no. 3, will challenge Domingo for the title in the mainer of "Daytime Boxing: Philippines vs Thailand" which will start at 9AM and will be broadcast 'live' in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia and other neighboring countries. Viva Prime will also telecast the fight live in Manila. "I am familiar with Domingo's fighting style. He came here in 2001 to fight my stablemate Somsak and Sod," Ratanachai said in a long-distance interview from Thailand. Domingo lost in both fights via knockout, but Ratanachai should expect a different Domingo will face him on Sunday as the Filipino is now a much-better fighter since joining the famed ALA Gym. Vorapin, who twice battled Gerry Penalosa, further stated that he is not looking past Domingo, as he knows the consequences based on his experience when he lost the WBO bantam title to Mexican Jhonny Gonzalez in 2005. Vorapin and his team are slated to plane in tonight in Cebu, and will immediately proceed to the Cebu Grand Hotel, the official hotel of the event. The rest of the card includes: Ex-WBA champ Somsak Sithchatchawal vs Joel De la Cruz; Rey Labao vs Amor Tino; Marvin Sonsona vs Edwin Tumbaga; Julius Alcos against Nelson Llanos; and female fighter Geremie Tabastabas against Thailand's lady fighter Usanakorn Kokietgym. Fight tickets are now available at the Cebu Coliseum ticket outlet, and fans are advised to get them this early to avoid last-minute rush. "Daytime Boxing: Philippine versus Thailand" is presented by SGG Sports Promotions, Kokiet Group of Thailand, Sunriser Motorcycles, City Government of Cebu, Viva Sports, Tanduay, Omega Boxing Gym, and Cebu Grand Hotel, the official hotel. Promoter Sammy Gello-ani also informed that the final press conference for the fight will be held on Friday, 3PM at the Cebu Grand Hotel, while the official weigh-in takes place on Saturday 9AM also at the Cebu Grand. |
