DOMINGO BATTLE-READY FOR VORAPIN; TICKETS OUT TODAY

PhilBoxing.com

WBO Oriental bantamweight champion Michael Domingo of the ALA Boxing Gym has declared he is ready to take on former world champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin when they cross paths on Sunday in the mainer of the "Daytime Boxing" at the New Cebu Coliseum.

Domingo (36-14-2, 15 KO's) will be defending his title for the first time against Vorapin, who twice faced Gerry Penalosa in the past.

"I'm ready to take his world ranking away. I have trained for this biggest fight of my life," Domingo said yesterday. The Libac, Sultan Kudarat native added that his manager Michael Aldeguer is hoping that if he wins against Vorapin, an American stint is up next, and he won't let that opportunity pass him by.

Vorapin (73-10, 49 KO's) ranked WBO no. 3, is currently training in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and is expected to arrive next week for the fight along with his team from Bangkok.

"If I was never afraid of Gerry Penalosa, then who does Michael Domingo think he is?" Vorapin was quoted as saying.

Domingo's trainer Edito 'Ala' Villamor, meanwhile, sees more than enough reason for his ward to beat Vorapin as this shapes to be personal between him and the fighting Vorapin brothers.

Ratanachai's older brother Ratanapol had beaten Villamor via seventh-round TKO in 1993 to win the IBF minimumweight title, and this time, Villamor eyes revenge in a proxy war with Domingo out to inflict defeat on Ratanapol's brother.

Meanwhile, promoter Sammy Gello-ani has announced yesterday that tickets are now available at the Cebu Coliseum ticket outlet, and fans are advised to get them this early to avoid last-minute rush. "Daytime Boxing: Philippine versus Thailand" is presented by SGG Sports Promotions, Kokiet Group of Thailand, City Government of Cebu, Sunriser Motorcycles, Viva Sports, Tanduay, Omega Boxing Gym, and Cebu Grand Hotel.
