PhilBoxing.com

Marvin Sonsona.

While Manny “Pacman” Pacquaio is making history and paving ways for Filipino boxers, many intriguing professional young prospect are emerging out of the wood works in the Philippines.

When the Pacman first emerged on June 23, 2001 against highly regraded IBF champion Lehlohonolo Ledwaba, no one ever thought that this little known boxer from General Santos would end up making history. Now we are seeing much more.

With the doors wide open left by Pacquiao's phenomenal work ethics and accomplishing history that no other world champion from Philippines had ever acquired, boxing has more young fighters gearing up to be like Manny.

Of course there will only be one of kind Manny Pacquiao however, it now draws more curiosity and enthusiastic young athletes who want to turn professional at an earlier age. For those amateurs who where indecisive if they should turn professional or not is not the matter anymore, it’s now a question of how early can they turn pro. It’s incredible what is going on, younger prospects are emerging as young age of 16 years old and it’s all because of Manny Pacquaio's accomplishments.

There have been a lot of youthful names coming in and out of boxing limelight of this Pacman Era of Philippines, names such as Rey “Boom Boom Bautista, Barnabe Concepcion, AJ “Bazooka” Banal, Ciso “Kid Terrible” Morales and this past May 31st, young prospect Jason Pagara of ALA Boxing Stable made history to be the youngest ever to win a legitimate regional title at age 16.

Meanwhile, SGG Sports Promotions Sammy Gello-Ani has revealed yet another hot prospect from the Philippines “Marvelous" Marvin Sonsona of the fighting Sonsona family. Many have been talking about how good he is, Marvin started boxing in the young age of 7 years old and trained earlier by his uncle Boy Sonsona. The young Sonsona, gathered 150 plus amateur fights and was a 5-time Gold medalist, 10 times Silver medalist, 9-time Bronze medalist and Batang Pinoy Champion of 2002 Puerto Princessa City tournament with now an unblemished professional record of 5 wins with 3 knock-outs.

With the guidance of his newly appointed manager Dr. Rajan Yraola and head trainer Jun Agrabio who had made contact with SGG Sports Promotions to promote Marvelous Marvin was ecstatic of his agreement with Gello-ani.

“Our tie-up with Philippines promoter Gello-ani is a great move for us, I have seen what he had done for other fighters and we are looking forward to also getting opportunities in the States with Golden Boy Promotions”.

Gello-ani explained that he is excited about this kid, he is only 16 years old and has already racked up a professional record of 5 wins with no defeat. “I have heard that this kid is the best out of the fighting Sonsona family of boxers. The plan is to give him about four or five more wins and schedule him for a regional WBO title to get him some world wide recognition. Watch this Kid and you will see what I am talking about," said Gello-ani

"As a promoter, our time is now, the window of opportunity for all fighters is here and now because of Pacquaio, we need to move on it while professional boxing is hot. I believe that one or two of the boxers I am working with will eventually be world champions. Time will tell, we have to make a move on it now while Pacquaio is still active," added Gello-ani.

SGG Sports Promotions is scheduled to showcase Sonsona in a six-round bout against Cagayan De Oro's Drian Diano in the under-card of the mammoth card this July 19, 2008 at Cebu Coliseum headlined by no less then the WBO Oriental Jr. Featherweight champion Ciso “Kid Terrible Morales and co-featured by IBF Pan Pacific lightweight champion Ranee “KO KID” Ganoy.
