Las Vegas, Nevada (July 1) - Featherweight prospect Glenn "Rapid Fire" Gonzales makes his first appearance in the American boxing scene when he goes up against a veteran American fighter from Rhode Island, New York Robert John DaLuz on July 5 in a 6-round undercard of the Ricardo Torres-Kendall Holt jr. welterweight championship at the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino here in Las Vegas.

Gonzales, 22, (6 wins (4 KOs),0 loss and 1 draw) a former Asian youth silver medallist and a product of the amateur boxing program of the Province of North Cotabato, is one of the two outstanding boxers from Mindanao Island in the Southern Philippines who have been signed up by Top Rank through the support of Filipino boxing idol Manny Pacquiao.

The other is top Philippine bantamweight contender Jundy Maraon, 23, who is from Suminot, Zamboanga del Sur and holds a record of 10 wins (8 K0s), 0 loss and 1 draw.

Both Gonzales and Maraon are managed by North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Pinol who along with his brothers own the Braveheart Boxing Club based in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato. They are the first two in a long list of outstanding boxers from Mindanao expected to move to the US to pursue their boxing careers.

At least five other Braveheart Boxing Club fighters are expected to join Gonzales and Maraon in the US this year. They are Glenn Porras (14 wins (8 KOs), 2 losses, Edrin Dapudong (14 wins (7 KOs) 2 losses) who is moving up to the jr. flyweight division, and undefeated jr. featherweights Reynaldo Belandres (8 wins, 6 KOs) Lorenzo Villanueva (8 wins, 8 KOs) and Rolando Magbanua (8 wins, 4 KOs).

Gonzales, who flew in from the Philippines April 28 along with his trainer, Noli Pinol, is a southpaw who stands 5' 6 1/2" and is the current World Boxing Organization Asia Pacific Interim Featherweight champion.
