Fajardo Knocks Down Simsri But Loses by Decision
By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Sat, 13 Apr 2024
 Fajardo (L) drops Simsri.
Despite being harshly knocked down in round 10, world ranked Thai fighter Thanongsak Simsri scored a unanimous decision win over hard-swinging Filipino Miel Fajardo today, Saturday April 13, in Osaka, Japan.
Fully aware of the Filipino’s proven power, the slick Simsri fought from from the distance, utilizing his left jab to keep Fajardo at bay, landing on the coming-forward Pinoy with combinations.
Those combinations did not seem to stagger nor badly affect the strength of the Agusan del Sur-native, however, they were enough to score rounds in the Thai's favor.
In round ten, the always dangerous Mel Fajardo (11-2-2, 10 KO’s), edged close to completely changed history by landing a crushing overhead left on Simsri, rocking the Thai down onto the Edion Arena canvas.
Even though unsteady, the strong Simsri managed to regain his vertical, battling back, completing the chapter, and eventually reaching the final bell.
An exciting fight it was!
It is not common that a Thai boxer and a Filipino warrior headline as the main event in the Land of the Rising Sun, but this action fight did just that with flying colors.
During the official announcement, official tallies were 117-110, 116-111 and 115-112, all in favor of Simsri.
With his victory, the 23-year-old Thanongsak Simsri (33-1, 30 KO’s), claims from Mel Fajardo the OPBF (WBC Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation) Light Flyweight Title, improving, as well, his standing in the hot 108-lbs weigh-class.
This is the division where the main attraction is the unified WBC/WBA world champion Kenshiro Teraji 寺地拳四朗 (23-1, 14 KO’s).
The event was a production of Masaya Motoishi of Green Tsuda Promotions, live on Lemino.
Congratulations to both boxers for an exciting show!
