Carzano, Amodia snatch Ereno chess crowns

Johnny Carzano and Jarfinel Amodia ruled 2nd Engr. Billy Joe Ereno chess tournament at the Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental National High School (MONHS) last March 16, 2024.
Carzano topped the 2150 and below rapid chess tournament while Amodia dominated the 1850 and below division.
Carzano finished the round-robin competition with six points, the same output of Michael Jackson Ambuang. With the highest tie break points, Carzano took the title while Ambuang finished second.
Mardonio Fuentes came solo third with 4.5 points followed by fourth place Roy Ronald Roa with 4.0 points, fifth place Geronimo Romarate with 3.5 points and sixth place Shojie Navarro with 3.0 points.
Meanwhile, Amodia finished with 7.0 points in the Swiss system event of the Group B category.
It shall be recalled that Amodia topped the December 2023 rapid tournament.
Gilbert Baba settled at second place with 6.0 points while Jomar Anhao landed at third with 5.5 points.
Rounding off the top 11 with 5.0 points were Noela Palanas, Meldelino Jalambo, Brent Nitchel Cortedor, Ranzeth Marco Magallanes, Noel Lawrence Arabia, John Rod Estrella and Adrian Bohol.
The 2-in-1 rapid chess tournament was sponsored by Engr. Billy Joe Ereno in close cooperation with Tournament Director Engr. Jeson Bolando, Chief Arbiter Prince Allan Suliva and Deputy Arbiter Jeffrey Miranda.-Marlon Bernardino-
