Racasa, Cu off to good start in Indonesia By Marlon Bernardino PhilBoxing.com Fri, 27 Jan 2023 TANGERANG, Indonesia---Woman National Master Antonella Berthe "Tonelle" Racasa and National Master Ivan Travis Cu got off to a blazing start by posting victories in the opening round of the BKD Fide Rated International Open Chess Tournament Under 21 on Friday at the Gunadarma University Karawaci in Tanggerang-Indonesia here. Racasa of Mandaluyong City defeated Muhammad Tedisyah Arya of Indonesia after 30 moves of Modern defense while the San Juan ace Cu subdued Tristan Haidar of Indonesia after 33 moves of Modern Benoni defense. “The first round is one of the toughest rounds in any tournament. It usually sets the tone of how you’re going to perform,” said Mr. Robert Racasa, father/coach of WNM Antonella. "Iam so happy to hurdle my first round assignment," said the 15-year-old Racasa, a student of Victory Christian International School. "We hope to perform well in this event and gain some ElO rating points," added the 14-year-old Cu, a Grade 8 student of Xavier School. Go for Gold PH standing behind NM Ivan while WNM Antonella got the support ALC Group of Companies Chairman and CEO D. Edgard A. Cabangon, Philippine Racing Commission (PHILRACOM) chairman Aurelio "Reli" de Leon and Sir Raffy Garcia of Pasig Rotary Club. Another Filipino entry Jeanne Marie Arcinue of Cavite, meantime was beaten by the top seed Dziththauly Ramadhan of Indonesia who possessed an elo rating of 2208. FM Kemas Ade Krisna Mausyach Suri, WFM Samantha Edithso and WFM Rasyid Nur Aini of Indonesia and WCM Jia-Tien Chua of Malaysia also opened with wins. The event is organized BKD Chess Club will be conducted under the auspices of Indonesian Chess Federation.
