SOLIS-DONAIRE FIGHT TO BE CANCELLED? By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sat, 10 May 2008 ![]() While Fil-American Glenn Donaire is now "about 100 percent" ready for his world title challenge, IBF light flyweight champ Ulises Solis is reportedly suffering from severe coughing in Mexico which would most likely cause the cancellation of their May 17 showdown in Aguascalientes, Mexico. A report from a Mexican boxing website yesterday indicated that Solis was suffering from pneumonia and will have to call off his seventh title defense against Donaire, according to the boxer's father Aurelio. "He arrived at the press conference with a minor gripe, and apparently the air-conditioning and cold weather took a toll on him," said the elder Solis, who said that while he is in Aguascalientes, his son is currently in Guadalajara. This developed as Nonito Donaire Sr, who trains his son Glenn, told this writer in an interview yesterday that his son has been sparring hard against his brother and IBF flyweight king Nonito Jr, and that Glenn has been in tremendous physical shape. "We are very confident to win this title. We will leave for Aguascalientes on Monday, and we are in the mood to win the crown," said the elder Donaire, apparently still in the dark as to the health conditions of world champion Ulises Solis. There was no word as of yet from the IBF office whether Glenn Donaire will be fighting another opponent for the interim title, or will it call for a re-scheduling of the bout.
